Barron’s PSAT with CD-ROM, 17th Edition

Barron’s is a test prep company known for delivering very clear and user friendly content. With a Diagnostic test, 4 full-length practice tests with explanations, automatic scoring(for CD-ROM), hundreds of additional practice questions on each subject, and PSAT tips / strategies, this book is a clear winner. This is a great resource due to all of the easy to understand quality content along with sufficient practice to go along with it.

The one main weakness of Barron’s is that the cumulative chapter tests are somewhat confusing at which portion of the topic you’re answering for. This can make some of the end of chapter practice questions not very useful since you don’t exactly know what are you answering the question for.

Kaplan PSAT/NMSQT  Strategies, Practice and Review

Kaplan is another reliable test prep company and have created a comprehensive guide covering all sections of the PSAT. This book Includes: 4 full-length practice tests, 1 full diagnostic test, 500 realistic practice questions with explanations, review of all test sections, and study guides to help students make it through.

The book begins by laying out the basics of the PSAT itself before describing general test taking strategies. It then proceeds to examine the three main topics of the PSAT – math, reading and writing.

This is a great book for those who would like access to extra online features such as flashcards and videos to reinforce the concepts from the book.

One flaw of Kaplan’s is that some of the questions are either misprinted or unclear. Misprinted questions or errors really make you waste time and make you scratch your head in confusion wondering why you got a question wrong when it was actually correct.
